Effectiveness of honey for symptomatic relief in upper respiratory tract infections: a systematic review and meta-analysis

In a study of 290 children, aged 5-11 years at ten Dunedin schools who had monthly throat swabs collected between February and November 1997, Group A beta-haemolytic streptococci were isolated from one or more monthly throat swabs of 41% of children. In 28% of children, monthly swabbing demonstrated persistent (for at least three consecutive months) GAS colonisation.
