Only 10% of people with a cold want an antibiotic

Face to face interviews with 1767 adults (>15 years) in the UK in January 2011, found that during the preceding six months 25% had suffered from a sore throat, 37% from a cold, 26% from a cough and 14% from flu. Of the 1,000 individuals who suffered from symptoms of respiratory tract infections, 200 (or 20%) visited or contacted their GP. The reasons varied: a significant 51% did so due to the severity of their symptoms, while 47% reached out because they hadn't seen any improvement over several days.
