In a study, 416 individuals aged 11 years and older, who visited their family doctor due to respiratory symptoms and purulent rhinorrhoea, were randomly assigned to receive either amoxicillin or a placebo. There was no effect on duration of illness or pain. The duration of purulent rhinorrhoea was less in patients treated with amoxicillin.
