Cold symptoms commonly last longer than one week

Daily diaries kept by the parents of 81 children aged 5-12 years from the onset of a cold until recovery, found the most common symptoms were congestion and runny nose, with both these symptoms persisting for more than seven days in more than 50% of children. Cough also persisted for at least seven days in 50% of children. 15% of children were "feverish" (appearing ill, flushed or warm to touch) on day one but less than 10% had this symptom by day five. More than 70% of children still had some symptoms on day 10.
